Course Titles:

Advanced Drama, Acting, Musical Theatre,

Tech Theatre, Advanced Choral Ensemble

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

Advanced Choral Ensemble (6th Period): Open for both men and women, this is the highest level vocal performing group available. Advanced Choral Ensemble members are expected to possess self-discipline, musicianship, and commitment—all of which are necessary in attaining the highest possible level of choral performance. All out of school performances and special rehearsals are required. Audition Only

Musical Theatre/Chorus Combo - Advanced (7th period): This course continues the study of the style and characteristics of musical theatre. It covers production, staging, acting, dance and vocal music. This class will produce TWO productions during the school year. Audition Only (must take chorus in addition to this class)

Technical Theatre (4th Period): This class introduces the style and characteristic elements of dramatic arts. This class will assist in the design and construction of several full stage sets as part of the theatre season.

Musical Theatre/Chorus Combo - Beginning (1st Period): This course introduces the style and characteristics of musical theatre. It covers production, staging, acting, dance and vocal music. In addition to exploring standards in musical theatre, this class will explore the choral music standards. This class will collaborate with other classes to produce ONE musical production during the school year as well as several choral performances.

Musical Theatre - Intermediate (2nd Period): This course continues the study of the style and characteristics of musical theatre. It covers production, staging, acting, dance and vocal music.  In addition to exploring standards in musical theatre, this class will explore the choral music standards. This class will collaborate with other classes to produce ONE musical production during the school year as well as several choral performances. Audition Only

MATERIALS NEEDED

Chorus: Formal Dress/Tux, Music, Pencil and Folder
 

Men will need: black dress pants, black dress shoes, black socks & black belt.
Rental cover formal vest (black), formal shirt (black) and tie (Denmark Blue).
Vests and Ties will be kept at Denmark HS

 

Ladies will need:  black closed toed shoes.  Rental will cover formal dress.
 

Musical Theatre: Appropriate shoes for rehearsals and performance.  
Black Jazz Shoes (7th period Musical Theatre will need tap shoes)

 

Tech Theatre: Notebook and closed toed shoes.

FEES:

Chorus Dress/Tux Rental:      $75.00 Dress/Formal Vest, Shirt & Tie
Musical Theatre Production:   $100.00 One-Act Production  (Children's Show, JV Production)
                                       $200.00 Full -Length Production (Shuler Production/Spring Musical)

STUDENT PERFORMANCES

The culmination of everything you learn in Chorus, Acting, Advanced Drama and/or Musical Theatre will be in performances. As such, each day in class will be approached as a rehearsal.  You are now a member of a cast and, as of the first day of class, we are currently in production, so your daily behavior and participation should reflect this.

GENERAL RULES

      1.    Be respectful at all times. This means NO negativity!
      2.    Be on time and prepared for class with your music and pencil.
      3.    No food, drinks, or gum in class. Water bottles are the only exception.
      4.    Cell phones are not permitted in class or rehearsal unless given permission by the teacher.

DISCIPLINE

For each violation of the above class rules (including the rules in the DHS student handbook), the student(s) in question will be expected to adhere to the policies set forth below.

CONSEQUENCES

1st   Offense: warning from the teacher
2nd Offense: parent notification and after school detention in the PAC
3rd  Offense: parent contact, administration referral, and detention
4th  Offense: Alternative assignment for upcoming performance. 

EXPECTATIONS

We have very high expectations of each of our students. The most important of all is a POSITIVE AND HELPFUL ATTITUDE. At no time will disrespectful or hurtful words or actions be tolerated in our classrooms. In order to be successful, we must work together as a unified group of singers or as a team. We expect everyone to come to class focused and prepared to work.
