A Stage for Everyone

The Denmark Performing Arts Spotlight Series is an inspiring initiative at Denmark High School dedicated to fostering inclusivity in theatre. Mirroring programs like the Penguin Project, this series provides a supportive and empowering platform for Denmark's special needs students to shine brightly on stage. By focusing on theatrical productions specifically tailored for and performed by these talented individuals, the Spotlight Series celebrates their unique creative abilities and offers the entire school community the opportunity to witness the power and joy of inclusive theatre.

Summer Heissner
Director

Mrs. Heissner has been an educator for 20 years. She joined the Denmark Faculty in 2021. With certifications in Music, Special Education, and Secondary Math, she teaches classes in Musical Theater to Denmark’s Specialized Instruction students as well as Interrelated Resource Algebra classes. She proudly initiated Denmark’s Spotlight Series with its first show, Jungle Book (Kids), in May of 2024. Prior to Denmark, Mrs. Heissner was the Band Director at Rickard Middle School in Fort Lauderdale, FL. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Western Carolina University, and a Master’s Degree in Commercial Music and Composition from Florida Atlantic University. Mrs. Heissner resides in Cumming, GA with her husband Erik, children Nolan, Josefine,and Aleksander, and their cat, Dio.
